Product details
Childminders have a duty of care to ensure the safety and welfare of all children in their setting. While emergencies are rare, it is essential to be prepared for critical incidents, both in and outside your setting.
On the 3rd of April 2025 ‘Martyn’s Law,’ officially called the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (the Act) became law. There is a 24-month timeframe for people to prepare before the act comes into effect. Part of this law requires people working in education settings, including early years settings, be responsible for minimising the impact of a terrorist attack. To comply with this new law, you need to have appropriate procedures in place including:
- evacuation (to get people out of the building)
- invacuation (moving people to a safe place)
- lockdown (to secure the premises against attackers)
- communication
This policy helps covers these requirements for childminders working on their own or with one or two assistants.
The policy also has explanatory notes for the childminder to help you understand the requirements and the policy and to help you edit the policy for your own setting. There is also a 'Key Points' section at the end, highlighting the most important parts for parents.
This policy should be used in conjunction with your Emergency Evacuation Policy and Procedures. If you do not have one of these there is one included in the Contracts, Policies and Forms pack and Contracts, Policies and Forms MEGA pack which also includes a comprehensive and fully editable Safeguarding Policy.
